He was born on a Friday and came home on a Sunday, after probably the longest, most terrifying car ride of my life! Just couldn't wait to get him home and off the road! After that, time flew. He was dedicated to God, and had his first Easter at Brentwood Assembly of God. The people of Brentwood just adore him, and they are so good to us. They had a baby shower for him after he was born (I forget the date).
Hmmm... let's see.... Lucas started smiling sometime in May and he hasn't stopped since! He's just a happy little man. He learned that his voice could be used for something other than crying around the same time. Making cooing noises, yelling at the ceiling, squealing when he didn't quite yet know how to laugh.
I was shopping at Wal-Mart with Lucas in the wal-mart baby seat (because I don't have one of those normal car seats. He has the kind that he can grow with until he's old enough to sit on a seat alone) when I started to make him smile. I just couldn't get enough! So I began to sneak up to him and say "boo!" to see him smile and eventually it made him start to laugh! He has the kind of laugh I think every baby should have. It's perfect; giggley, and almost like he's so amused that it's hard for him to laugh! Sometimes he sounds like a doll that you have to wind up to make noise. Every time he laughs, it's as though someone just pulled a string real quick and his laugh is playing.
He started to grab at things around early three months, and then began to hold toys on his own around June. He puts everything in his mouth. Even now when we lay down on the floor on his play mat, he grabs my hand -looks at it for a second- and then shoves it into his face, trying to chew on my fingers! He can finally hold his own bottle, and he's beginning to become steadier sitting up on his own. I need to get professional pictures taken of him soon!
One thing he loves to do is stand in his jumpy contraption that lets him bounce to his heart's desire, and stare at the ceiling fan. He used to stare at it so long, until he fell asleep! But now that he can coordinate better, he's more interested in the toys on his jumpy.
On September 6th, he rolled over from front to back all on his own! I'm real excited to see him do it more often. I love watching him learn things and just take interest in what's going on around him. He's very observant.
Sometimes, I take him out to see the chickens in the back yard, and he almost gets scared. He looks at them quietly, as if trying to figure out what they are and how they work. Then he yells to me, as though he's making sure I'm still going to protect him. When I reassure him, he just sits and yells at the chickens! Oh my goodness, I love it!! Some day, I'll get to see what he's really like around them. One thing is for sure: my boy is not going to be a sissy boy. He's probably going to try to lasso those chickens and saddle them up! He'll be fearless :)
Would you look at how far we've come :)
